HVAC Air Purifier

There are multiple options for Raleigh homeowners and small business owners looking for air purifier options through their HVAC system.

We install everything from UV light systems, to ionic air purification systems in order to help reduce mold, bacteria & other airborne pathogens and improve air quality. Understandably, of greatest concern right now is coronavirus and particularly COVID-19.

We typically recommend the iWave-R and iWave-C air purification systems to our customers which uses bi-polar ionization to reduce airborne pathogens in a living or business space. Recently, its parent company Nu-Calgon had each of the systems tested against different strains of coronavirus showing favorable results.

The iWave-C is intended for light commercial use; however, it is also suitable for residential use. It was tested against SARS-CoV-2, aka COVID-19. The test was designed to mimic ionization conditions like that of a commercial aircraft’s fuselage. After evaluating viral titrations, the results showed that after 10 minutes, 84.2% of the virus was inactivated. After 15 minutes, 92.6% of the virus was inactivated. After 30 minutes, 99.4% of the virus was inactivated!

The iWave-R, built specifically for residences, was tested against the more common Human Coronavirus 229E. This was run in a test chamber within a lab setting. In the test, a petri dish containing the Human Coronavirus 229E was placed underneath a laboratory hood and monitored to evaluate the reactivity to the Needle Point Bi-polar Ionization (NPBI) over time. The results showed after 1 hour, 90% of the virus was inactivated.
